Legal notice and licence terms
The conditions of sale and of use for Erlen. Please read them before you buy. There are no refunds after purchase.
This is a courtesy translation. The Japanese version prevails. (日本語版が正文です) The disclosure below is required by the Japanese Act on Specified Commercial Transactions, and the 日本語版の表記 is the binding text. The EULA is likewise governed by its Japanese original — the English wording here is provided for understanding only, and the copy shipped inside the product is the Japanese one.

Because this is a digital product, we cannot accept returns, exchanges, or refunds after purchase. That is why we put a fit check (/en/shindan) and a screening step (/en/apply) before the sale. Failure to run because your environment does not meet the requirements is also outside the scope of refunds. Please check the requirements and the first-time setup guide beforehand. This does not apply where the product has a material defect that we are responsible for and cannot repair. |
| Quantity | Sales are by screening. The early release may end without notice. We may decline to sell as a result of screening (the reason is shown on the application screen). |

| Notes on claims and the product | Results described here vary from person to person and are not a guarantee of any benefit or outcome. This product is a tool for managing research records; it does not guarantee conformity with GxP, CSV, or other regulatory requirements. |

EULA (licence terms)
These are the terms of use for the software "Erlen" (source code, configuration files, preset data, and documentation; the "Product"). Purchasing, downloading, or using it constitutes acceptance. The full text is available here before purchase. The same text ships with the product. The Japanese original governs; this English rendering is a courtesy translation.
1. What is permitted
- Use of the Product by the purchaser (an individual, or one lab / one business) for their own research or work
- Deployment to your own cloud account (Cloudflare and the like) and the copying needed to operate it
- Modifying and extending the Product (using your modified version yourself is unrestricted)
- Feeding the entire source of the Product to an AI development tool (such as Claude Code) and having it set up, operate, and modify the Product (the Product is designed for exactly that use)
- Inviting members of your lab to use the instance you administer
2. What is prohibited
- Redistributing, reselling, lending, or publishing the Product (original or modified) in a public repository
- Selling a competing product of which the Product forms a substantial part, and offering the Product itself to third parties as a SaaS
- Transferring the Product to anyone other than the purchaser (except as part of a business transfer or the succession of a lab)
- The distributed archive contains a signed licence certificate identifying the purchaser (email address and purchase ID). If unauthorised redistribution is found, we may use it to identify the source and take measures including termination of this licence and claims for damages (details)
- Removing or tampering with the certificate before redistribution is likewise a breach
3. Warranty and liability
- The Product is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied
- No support is provided (the one-time price assumes this). Investigating defects and resolving environment-specific problems is done by the purchaser, using the bundled documentation and an AI
- The provision of updates is not guaranteed
- We are not liable for damages arising from use of the Product. This includes loss, corruption, or leakage of lab records, cloud usage charges, and any conflict with research ethics, intellectual property, export control, laws, or the rules of your institution
- Preserving your records is your responsibility. Take backups and test restores regularly (with the bundled eln-backup skill)
- Whether the records this Product produces satisfy your institution's rules or any given guideline (research data management, electronic record requirements, and so on) is for the purchaser to judge
4. Third-party software
- The Product bundles the structure editor Ketcher, made by EPAM Systems. Ketcher is provided under the Apache License 2.0, and that licence — not this one — governs it (the licence notices of the open-source components it contains ship with the Product)
- The Product queries the public API of PubChem (US NIH / NLM) for compound information. Follow PubChem's policies for the data you retrieve
- The bundled reagent and equipment presets are example seed data. Physical properties and regulatory classifications vary by grade and supplier, so in practice always confirm against primary sources such as the SDS
5. Miscellaneous
- The sample data and sample settings included in the Product are meant to be rewritten to suit your own research
- This licence is governed by the laws of Japan
About the licence certificate
The zip you receive contains exactly one extra file, erlen/LICENSE_CERT.txt,
a signed licence certificate issued to you.
It exists so that unauthorised redistribution can be traced back to its source, and it
plays no part in how the Product runs (delete it and Erlen still works —
but redistributing a copy with it removed is a breach of the licence).
What it contains
- Product version, purchase ID, the email address used at purchase, and the purchase timestamp
- An Ed25519 signature over the above (one line of base64)
That single file is the only thing written. Nothing is embedded in the source code or the configuration files, and the certificate does not transmit anything about you or your environment (it makes no network requests). How we handle the data it records is set out in the privacy policy.
You can verify it yourself
The signature can be checked against the public key below. The private key lives only on our server, and signatures cannot be forged from this key — so nobody else can issue a valid certificate, while anyone can verify one.
Ed25519 public key (spki / base64)

The public-key: line inside the certificate points at this section. If the key is
ever rotated, the older key stays listed here so previously issued certificates remain verifiable.
